In this chapter, Hirohito explains that he was arrested for murdering his own child. He says that he thought of his baby as a doll, but that he wants to keep it safe by his own power. He thinks that if he had a mother, she would feel the same way as he does, but he is sure that she is not his mother. He tells the others that they should look for Mikawa, but they cannot find her. They must return to the hospital, he says, because they have no idea where Mikawa has gone. He wonders if they will be able to find her if they do not believe them. He imagines that they will have to follow a scent of one of Mikawa's clothes.
