In this chapter, we learn that Dr. Coppelius is still at the university in Tokyo, Japan. He has been waiting for his chance to return to the university. He hears a thud, which he thinks is a rhinoceros. He runs for it, but the noise is too loud for him to make out the sound of a human approaching. He follows his sister, who tells him that there is a pond nearby, and that there are fish in the pond. He notices that a wall is bent, indicating that the water pressure in the room is too high for him.
