The narrator and his friend, taeko, are on their way to the race course when they hear a knock at the door. The girl's name is Miyoko, and they're looking for her. Miyoko's parents are from a technical school in Osaka, which is about two hours away from the tokyo race. They're worried about their daughter, who's in the train station. The two high school friends run off to find Miyoko. They don't know how to find her, but they know where to look for her: in the Tokyo race course.
