In this chapter, we learn that the fire woman was able to use the hot spring to help her escape, but that she was also attacked by the monster. The monster is upset that he has to take the test to get his book. He tells the monster that if he fails the test, he will not be able to get it. He says that he will leave the area to recover his soul energy, but he cannot guarantee that other plants will not attack him. He asks the monster if he wants to continue, but the monster says that even if he does not pass the test he will still let the monster get out of the area safely. The two of them exit, and the monster explains that he is still within the perimeter of the fire. He uses the freezing extremity spring to cast the icy field back into the snow.
