At some point, Huck stops thinking about the day his mom died. He's thinking about getting close to other people, and how he's going to have to talk to her about how he and his family treat other people. Huck's worried that if he gets close to someone else, he'll start to hate his mom, and he won't be able to love her anymore. He doesn't understand why Huck is so happy about his mom's death. If he keeps his feelings locked inside his heart, he says, it'll be impossible for him to love his mom and not be torn apart by someone else.
