In this short scene, Polonius is sent to his grandfather's home to recuperate from his illness. He is shocked to find that his grandfather is the same man who has been fighting in the trenches with his men for so long. Polonius, however, is not intimidated by the sight of his grandfather. He tells his grandfather that he is a fast learner and that he has never lost a fight. He compares his grandfather to a tree that does not complain if it is dropped on it's branch. He says that he thinks his grandfather must be an indestructible man, who will never quit fighting. He also says that the man must be a gentle man who will not have to hurt anyone. He points his gun at his grandfather and says that they are rung on the last rung of the ladder. He thinks that the men are living off of him and his children. The lieutenant will soon appear and he will wake up. He will kill toten lieu sie sie and then lay down. He looks at the situation and realizes that it is going to explode. He wonders if the lieutenant will be able to hide the fact that he and his men are killing a lot of people. He fears that the section will torture the family if they find out about the source of the information. He asks if he could stop the car so that they could discuss the matter at the office
