About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which Dr. Bledsoe explains that he and his men were ambushed by a group of enemy soldiers and that the bullets missed the arteries and nerves of the enemy soldiers. The bullet missed the "big arteries" and the bullet hit the heart. The doctor thanks the soldiers for their bravery and tells them to give him medicine to treat his high fever. The soldiers hear a clatter and a clatter, and the corporal tells them that he is the one who shot the man. The corporal tells the soldiers that the war has ended and that they must obey the orders of their superiors. He says that the soldiers hear the sound of gunfire all the time and cannot resist it. They have to obey their orders, he says, because they are the ones who have to do it. He explains that the invisible nine were responsible for the assassination and that he manipulated the corpses to make it look like the assassination was the work of an invisible nine. He adds that the letter was not addressed to one of their camps, but to someone else. He concludes that they have 54 hours until they can act freely to see what happens.
