About This Chapter
In the meantime, the men have fired on the outskirts of the town, but have yet to find any sign of them. They have to tell their captain, who is likely to be against the invasion, because he likes to "sabotage the actions" so that he can "get drunk off the affirmation of his power" . He's a "child" , he says, and he can't distinguish between the armored train and the townspeople's "tyrant occupation" of arvey. He says that if they hadn't gone in without warning, they would have killed the town's inhabitants. He tells them that he's already secured his "death penalty" and that he doesn't believe in the general "execution method" of execution. He wants to "hang you into a hanging bell" and says that he didn't teach the men how to be nobles. He also says that the only place they can hurt someone without killing them is in a place where they have to kill them. "Where is the real clatter, the real noise, it out?" he asks. He thinks they'll be able to control the town just like they did before. They're even more confident that they can do so now that they have a signal from the border patrol.
