The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Roxane, in which she says that she hates dealing with kids and that she's going to beat her ass if she has to. She tells Roxane that Carra has died and that they're going to kill him on his way to grandma's house instead of at the shop. Roxane says that they should wait until he's dead before killing him. She also says that Roxane's mother wants them to start working earlier, but that she doesn't know what that means. She says she'd like them to last as long as possible, but she also says she wants to be quiet for a while. She's not sure why they'd want to work so early in the morning, but Roxane thinks it's because they've been working so hard all day. He tells her that he had an argument with Carra the other day, and he thinks that it must be Carra. He says that the congress is going to convene in a month, and that the empire has no choice but to use military force to suppress the rebellion. He adds that he'll introduce him to Roxane when he stops being a kid.
