About This Chapter
In this short scene, the lieutenant tells us that he's relieved that he hasn't been fired from his job yet. He's about to enter enemy territory for the first time in his life. He asks the corporal if he has any questions for him. The corporal tells him that the dog is named after him because it looks like his head. He also tells the lieutenant that the border patrol is made up of people who are related to the people who were killed by the old lord at the start of the war. The lieutenant tells the corporal that he met the captain at the bar, and the captain told him that Mina had shot him because she had been ordered to do so. He says that Mina is filled with remorse and that it's too late for him to live with this nightmare. He plans to get some ammo from the bar and then head to town to get help.
