About This Chapter
Equality 7-2521 asks the captain if he wants to kill him. The captain says he doesn't know if he's "bad" or not, but he does know that there are "good guys" who do bad things. He says that everyone has a "internal compass" that can tell when something is "just" or "not" , and that even people who are bad can still speak of justice. He also says that even though there are bad people in the world, there are good people who do good things, like abel, sup pose, but not acacia . He adds that even a bad person can continue to speak about justice without irony, because everyone's internal compass can detect when something's just or not. He tells the captain that he'll never be able to touch his own hands again, because he can't think of anything wrong with his actions. He asks if she's using the word "justice" to justify her actions, and the captain replies that he is using it to cover up his "inconsistencies and guilt" in advance. He then says that the anti-war movement is also a victim of the war, because they were "unfarily abused" and "favored" by the government
