In the second half of the game, Mishima and Shimura square off in front of the goal. Mishima blocks a shot, but Shimura blocks a second one, which Mishima attempts to clear. The two defenders exchange blows, and Mishima wins the battle of wits. He argues that Mishima is a better defender than Shimura because he is a faster runner, and because he has a better understanding of how to use his upper body to his advantage. He wonders why Mishima came to play with them, and why they did not put him on the field right away, when he was so much better than the rest of the team. He also wonders if Mishima's answer to the question of why he came to join them was to have something to do with the fact that he was a natural who owns a hard-working nobody, and who is not going to be taken down by a prodigy through sweat, blood, and sweat. He sees Mishima as a good goal-scorer, and wonders why he did not go after Mishima earlier, when it would have been easier for Mishima to win. He thinks Mishima has a good eye, too, and that he keeps calm even when Mishima passes him the ball. He believes Mishima does not scare the other team one bit, because they practice so much in a day
