About This Chapter
On the 10th day of training camp, Percy tells Tom that he wants to know how to kick the ball. He asks if there's a trick to it, but the captain refuses to show him how to do it. He says he'll do it on his own. Percy tells him to think of the kick as a "life of its own," and he says he wants the ball to go "whoomp" . The captain tells him that he's not giving the kick enough feeling, and that's why it's so hard to kick. He also says that he feels bad because all of his passes were cut off in practice today, and he wishes he could go back and practice again. He tells the captain that he likes the kid, who reminds him of himself, and says that the kid is not like him at all. He then tells the other players that the camp is nearing its end.
