In this chapter, Ling zhi explains that the curse of the black viper comes from the sacrifice made by the ancestors of his clan. The black viper is poisoning human land, but it is keeping the land safe from the invading foreign clans. He wants to know why his ancestors made the sacrifice, and he hopes that he can undo the curse. The spirit clan, he says, can sense fate, and they will be able to help the foreign clans if they are affected by his mine. If he can help them, then he will be the Princess of the Spirit Clan. He says that if he carries the blood of his royal family, he will split up his army and help the refugees. He also says that the emperor split his army so that he could save the filth of his palace. He adds that he does not care if his name is remembered for the millenniums, he only cares about his people. He and the snow king rush to the emperor's palace to help him, but are ambushed by arrows
