In this chapter, Ling-Li tries to convince Ren that he is not jealous of the Empress's wealth. She points out that the seal on the box containing her dowry is from Ren's father, who chose her as his wife. He even asked the imperial affairs department to prepare the dowry so that the Empress would not have to pay for it. Ren tells her that he does not want to remarry with her, because he knows that the Emperor was afraid that he would be accused in the public of protecting his consort. He tells her to send the secret orders out.
