About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the gods are not afraid of humans. In fact, they're afraid of the gods themselves. In other words, the gods don't want humans to be afraid of them. This is the first time we've heard this line from the gods: "I'll shine too, when I die . . I'll live too" . The next turn, we find out that the reason the gods aren't scared of humans is because humans are afraid of being killed by the gods. That's right, we're told, the reason why the gods won't let humans be killed by them is that humans are too afraid of killing themselves. So, the next time we see the gods, we can't help but think, "Oh, yeah, that's what the gods want us to do. They're just going to let us kill ourselves if we want to." We're not sure what that means, but it's definitely not a good sign. The gods are going to kill us if we kill ourselves, right? So, shun says, he's going to take the gods' side and kill himself. He's not going to stop until he kills himself. But, he says, there's still a lot of people who'll be sad if he dies, so he'll have to kill himself if he wants to be sad. He asks himself, "If this die fine, just do what you like, but in return, yeah .
