The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of Sky-High-Hop-Scotch. The narrator explains that the plan was already in motion when he said that no one would move. He explains that he had already found the numbers that would lead them to the goal. He then manipulated the numbers so that they would not be seen by anyone else. He also explains that even if they did see the numbers, they would be too far away to reach the goal since they would have to spell the numbers to get to it. The group gathers at the goal and clears away the plates. He tells the group that they will have to go back to the spot where they first started. He reminds them that they are each taking a different goal, and that they each take a different amount of time to accomplish their goal.
