In this chapter, the reader is introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in previous chapters. They are, in fact, the same characters who were introduced in the first two chapters of the novel. The first person introduced in this chapter is Maule, who is the leader of the Volscian army. Maule tells the reader that he has come to rescue his friend, who has been imprisoned in the country jail. He asks Maule to use the hand of the sun king to open the bars of the prison. He tells Maule that he wants to talk to him about the movies he likes and the food he likes. He says that he and Maule have been fighting side-by-side all this time, and that he always believed that Maule was still alive somewhere. He wants to know what Maule likes, and he says that if they make a movie together, he would like to know more. He also says that even when they were apart, he always thought that he was alive somewhere where Maule and he were fighting together. He begs Maule not to leave him alone, but to go back and tell him that he is precious to him. He is happy to hear that he feels this way, and wants to tell Maule more about him. Mauler says that after losing his heart, he cant go on fighting anymore. He finally understands why Maule called him his leader, because he was there to fight against the "hell" . He feels that it is too desolate for him to live in a world without Maule. He calls for his friends to kill him.
