In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named rui, who is a student at a school called the "Trash Can Academy." Coincidentally, this is the same school that the protagonist attended when he was a student in the first chapter of the novel. Briefly, we learn that rui is a second-year student at the academy, and that he is studying survival skills in a trash can. He is introduced to the academy's chief director, who tells him that he will have him master the "kami culum" , or the study of gods, in the trash-can. Predictably enough, rui and the other students in the school are very excited to learn about the kami .
