The two men try to fight off the snake, but they can't because the water is so strong. The snake's blood is poisonous, so they have to go back to the boat to get it out of the water. The men are worried that the water will poison them, but hannya is too strong a spirit to be killed by a snakebite. They decide to go ahead and fight, but the snakebite is stronger than hiroki, so it looks like they're going to have to fight it alone. They're not going to be able to do it without hannya's help.
