When Fang's mother passes away, she begs Fang to visit her in hopes that Fang will not blame her for her death. Fang explains that his father left the family in favor of "prosperity and fame" and that his mother's illness was caused by caring for Fang while he was a student at the university. After graduating, Fang bought a ring and told his mother that he and Fang were engaged. However, after he returned from teaching in a village, Fang asked him if someone could pass away after "vomiting blood" . Fang says that he is already married and that he won't be held responsible if Fang wants to hold him responsible for his wife's death. He also asks Fang to stop his husband because he is aware of the "horrific things" he has done to his wife. Fang tells his mom that she should explain the whole thing to her husband since he did it for his mother. Fang then asks his mom why she is so gloomy. She says that she just wanted to speak to Fang and try to get him to let his father come home. She also asks her mother if she is the granny Fang is referring to.
