This chapter opens with a soliloquy by Ling-ling, in which he explains that he and Ching-ling will be able to "clear out all of their concerns and hatred towards one another" . He then tells Ming-ling to go to his mommy's house and tell her that he'll be back soon. He also tells her to hurry up to find Ching-lan and tell him that he needs to talk to him alone. He says he's going to go find his mommy, but that he can't wait to tell him about the fight that's about to happen between Ching-lon and Ming-lan. He's already said it before, and he promises to keep repeating it. He adds that they'll never have the same sky, and that they will never be able "to share the same air" , even if they kill each other. This is the first time he has ever said anything like this, and it's clear that he means no disrespect. He promises to "repay you twice" for any "crimes" he has committed against him, and says that he is willing to take back the gun that has three bullets inside it. This gun, he says, has "three bullets in it" and he is ready to "take it back" if it comes time for him to die. He tells his father not to try to stop him, but to call him back with his crew immediately. He doesn't want him to witness his father's "final moments" if he does not do so. He reminds his father that if he dies, he will have no regrets if he is killed by his father. He asks his father to pay attention to his words, and reminds him that "you all cannot cause
