In this chapter, we learn that Ching-luo's health has taken a turn for the worse. He has lost a good deal of blood and is now in critical condition. His father-in-law tries to comfort him by telling him that his son is doing fine and that he should not worry about his health. Ching-liu then tells his son that the doctor has told him that he will soon be able to wake up. He also tells him that if he does not wake up, he will bite his son's shoulder.
