In this short scene, we learn that Mr. Cai's son has returned from the war, and that he and his wife are engaged in an affair. We also learn that the two of them have fallen in love and are planning to have a child together. We are introduced to Mr. Feng, who is the boss of the company. He tells us that he is leaving the company because he has three parts to his report: 1) his application for leave; 2) the report on him in prison; and 3) the recent investment projects that he has been involved in. He says that it is time for the company's female employees to start families, and he wants to help both of them to do so. He also says that he will get some drugs from the cong gang so that they can have a drink at the first month's feast of the Bai family's daughters.
