The chapter opens with a soliloquy in which Dr. Bledsoe tells the audience that he has agreed to take Owen out of the club, and that Owen will soon be free. Owen is grateful to have been taken out, and he tells Dr. Owen that he does not want more. He has a tattoo that needs Owen's help. The tattoo is a totem, a symbol of the organization, that is tattooed on the body of every member. Owen explains that the tattoo is made by the use of demon blood, which is the main source of money for the organization. He tells Owen that the club is owned by the Shen family, but that the organization runs it on a profit-making basis. Owen wants to know more about the relationship between the organization and the family, so that he can better understand how much power the organization has over Owen.
