About This Chapter
The scene opens with Bei-ming's father, Mr. Ming, asking his son if he's okay. He's been in a terrible car accident, and his arm is broken, but he says he'll be fine. He thanks his uncle and his aunt for being so kind to him, and they promise to take care of him. Bei Ming tells his father that he still loves him, even though his life is over. He says he still wants to thank him for being such a good person. He tells his uncle that if he doesn't come to school the next day, he will be blamed for failing the test. He also tells his aunt that he broke his arm in the accident. He asks his uncle if he thinks this trick is old, and he says it's not.
