When the narrator returns to his hotel room, he finds that his wife has gone to bed. He asks her what happened to her, and she tells him that she had gone to sleep thinking that he was dead. He tells her that he had not planned to die, but that he is now going to continue his search for his sister. He says that if his sister were alive, he would like to see her perform again on the stage, but he will not do so considering what he has done to her
