About This Chapter
The Princess of Juda tells her son not to stay in her room. She tells him that Kingohabuta is like a "thin ivory statue" and that she will not have him look at her. The Princess says that she looks forward to seeing how her son's acting is like, but that he has been "an utter letdown" because he has "coddled her" that she does not get it. She says that the way he looks down on her reminds her of the way her mother did not tell her that her mother was pregnant. She adds that there is something about her mother that scares her, and that there might be times when she looks like a completely different person. She suggests that they come up with a way to convince her father that her illness has affected his memory. The princess says she has prepared a scenario in which she pretends that she is pregnant and that her father is not her mother. She pretends to look at the face that she saw when she was pregnant and says that this face stole everything from her. She promises to deceive her father, her mother, and everyone else who cares about her
