About This Chapter
It's been a long time since the show ended, and the seagull is still there. The narrator tells us that the seagull was the main character in the play, which was a tragic story about a country girl who leaves her hometown and goes to Paris to find the love of a novelist. The girl is named Nina, and she's the one who's left her hometown to go to Paris. The seagull tells the narrator that he's now a real actress, and that he doesn't fear life. He's glad that he always loved Nina's role, because she says all the optimistic stuff about how wonderful she is. He also tells the seagull that one month ago, he found out that Nina was sleeping on the side of the road, which means that she'd been sleeping for weeks at a time. He says that if he had known that, he would have told her that she was sick, but he didn't want to tell her because he wanted to make sure that she wouldn't notice that he was imitating her. He tells her that if she were to become even better and more beautiful, no one would notice that she wasn't from right, and nobody would suspect anything.
