About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's going to tell the story of the woman who was supposed to be killed at birth because of the legend surrounding the fire horse. He's not going to reveal her name, though, because he doesn't want to reveal that she's a friend of his. Instead, he'll tell us that she was in love with a man named kaidou when he was eleven years old, and that she died when she was only five years old. She was a "devil" with a "beautiful woman" , and she died in the fire. The only thing that stopped her from killing herself was the fact that she couldn't keep using her face for five days after she died, so she was going to look for a new face. The narrator also tells us about the letters that were sent by the woman named namino, who pretended to be izana. He says that she once wrote to namino pretending to be her, and then exchanged letters with him. The story is totally absurd, the narrator says.
