In this chapter, we learn that the narrator wishes to visit his mother and sister-in-law, but that he is busy with his work and doesn't have the time to go. He wants to find out more about his mother's and sister's past, but he can't bring himself to go back to the place where he was born. He's worried that the place is empty and that there's nothing else there. He also worries that the gar bage is full of old drafts, which could reveal izana's secret. Finally, he realizes that the handwriting on the bage isn't the same as the rest of it. It's just "cinna bar" and "crimson son" . He wonders if this is the same handwriting that he saw with izana when she kissed him.
