About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the day after Nemo's death, when Hiroyuki received a call from Nogiku. Hiroyuki had heard that Nemo had died, and he was worried that he would never hear her voice again. When he did, however, he was surprised to find that she was still alive, and that they had not been able to speak for some time. He tells her that his life is getting worse and that he wants to "throw it all away" and run away. He thanks her for always helping him out, and says that he does not have any lovers or family. He says that when he is having a bad time, he often goes to the sea and walks along the shore, feeling how they like it to be calm together. Since the reports he chose not to complain about her tactless behavior, he went on course to hold onto her phone number or email. He does not know where she lives or her job, but he avoids getting too nosy. He feels that they were sent to him by the sea, and at some point, he knew that he was looking down on those "inferior and the sense superior ity" that came with it. He asks her if she is his longing for her, and she says that she is. She looks even more beautiful, he says, than before. She is still beautiful, but she is no longer as beautiful as before. He wants to know if she can see him, and asks her to come closer
