About This Chapter
The scene opens with a soliloquy by the Governess, in which she laments the fact that she is so beautiful that no one will ever think of her as "peculiar" or "dirty" . She tells the audience that she has always wanted to be a good actress so that she could "fool" the audience into believing that she and her husband are lovers. She says that she wants to tell the audience the truth about what happened between her and Ganymede, and that she will tell him that she did not want him to marry her because she was a captive of him for so long. The Governess says that if she hadn't had a light in the car, she would have forgotten it in the drive. She also says that even if she had had the light, she wouldn't have killed Ganyme because he never let her leave that mansion. She adds that she would never have killed him because he was a "target for his lust" , but that she doesn't want her sister to know because she thinks she could meet her "only sister" and kill her. She asks the audience to make their faces "safer" by making their faces look "vulgar" and "disguis clap" what is wrong with them
