The narrator tells us that he's created a new character. He's going to introduce us to an actress named Izana. Izana is a girl who lives in a small mountain village called akeiwa, and she's just like the narrator. The narrator first met Izana when she was eleven years old. She left her father in the village and went to live with an old woman, named Chigusahirasaka, who raised Izana in secret. The two of them are the same age, and they're just like each other in every way. Is she going to be killed soon? Is he going to propose to her? The narrator says that Izana probably isn't going to marry him, because I'm not going to give him a reward for being such a nice guy. I don't want to live like that, he says. He wants to live for Izana, and he wants her to forgive him for being so nice to her. If I grant your request, he promises, I'll forget about all of my resentment.
