About This Chapter
"Clack What a Racket" is the title of this chapter. It's a reference to the fact that a man is calling to see whether or not he can get into contact with Kishane. Kishane is annoyed that someone is calling on his behalf, but he doesn't know who the man is. He's also annoyed that there's no one around who knows about his mom's secret. He wants to know if anyone has figured out his secret, or if someone else has figured it out for him. He also wonders if there are other people around who know about his mother's secrets, too. He wonders if they're just trying to get into a relationship with him, or whether they just want to get in on the action. He says that he's not interested in seeing anyone pretend to be someone he isn't. He just wants to see his own work, and he wants to be treated to a nice performance. He tells Kishane that there is a new actress who can play the part of Kishane's father in a new play, and she's doing a great job. She's acting like Kishane and his father, and it's disgusting. He compares her to the "second coming" of his father's character, Kishane, and says that she is like the heroine of the play. He feels suffocated by the "sweet lie" of acting.
