The next morning, van der Merwe wakes up to find that the storm has stopped all trains for the day. He's glad that he got to spend the night with Persia, and he's excited that he'll get to spend another day with her. He tells the other students that they'll have to stay up all night to catch the train back to school, but they should be fine. He also tells the others that he plans to keep them apart from each other so that they don't get caught up in the storm.
