In this chapter, we learn that the desert is full of giant beacons, which can only be reached by human beings. One of these beacons is presided over by a holy lord named Lou-wang, and the other is commanded by one of the other holy lords named Bestein. The narrator tells us that the time in the desert flies at 30 times the speed of light, and that the fruit that the holy lords give to humans can help them survive. He also tells us about Jessica, who has been suffering from severe dehydration and lack of vitamins. He says that if she had enough fruits, she would be able to survive the desert. He then shows us his black magic crystal, which is a fragment of the crystal that he and Jessica took from the demon. He explains that the crystal is the raw material for making weapons out of it. He tells us to take him to Bestein's giant pillar, but that he has to go in a different direction first, because he can't stay with Jessica. He suggests that they go towards the center of the desert, where the magnetic field will make them feel dizzy
