"She disappeared" , says the Governess, who has lost track of the girl. She tells him that she ran away once before, but that time, she was unpredictable. The Governess is relieved to see that he has grown up into a "decent human being" . He tells her that he used to take her for walks and take her to his workplace, but now that he's grown up, he doesn't want to do that anymore. He asks her if she's noticed that he cheated on her, and she says that she has. He says that he ordered a huge pile of fries, so he had to eat half. After a good performance, he says, he gets scared thinking that he may never be good enough to do better. He wants to know why he can't talk about this with the man he hates more than anyone else in the world. He offers to let him stay in his room for free if he wants, and he says he'll make his own dinner and go see Paris fashion week. He hopes to get some results so he can go see the fashion show.
