This chapter opens with a discussion between the patriarch and the vice-principal of the academy. The patriarch says that if the two families go to war, he will not be able to get involved in the affairs of the world. The vice- principal says that he has already crossed the line and that if he and the other families were to fight, then he would be unable to do so. He tells the patriarch that the dark moon family is powerful and not one that he should provoke. But the patriarch points out that he wants to keep the family safe, but honor demands that they fight it out. He says that the family's actions are vile, and if no one would stand up for them, justice would still be broken in the world
