About This Chapter
In this short scene, Tamura and his family return from their trip to Japan. Tamura tells the others that he is impressed that keitaro is smart enough to pass the test to go abroad. He tells them that they should treat the test like a vacation and not worry about it for six months. He gives them a bottle of brandy and a miniature earthen object that he has made. He says he is glad to have spent two years at the inn and that he would like to spend the rest of his life there. He asks the others if they have any plans of time. They all agree that it will be their last time in Japan and that Tamura will have to wait four hours for the engine check. He adds that he will tell Tamura what he can't before telling him what he couldn't. They laugh at each other and Tamura asks Tamura if he has any plans for time. He replies that he does, and they all laugh at him. He then tells Tamura that it is their last day in Japan, and that they will be able to tell him what they could not before. When he asks if she is hungry, she replies that she is. She tells him that she did not get the kiss she promised him and that she will not kiss him again. She asks him if he is sewing, and he replies that his clothes are not as mortal as they are. She says that she has told him that he can do anything without her, and she says that he must be a bumbler because he cannot do anything else without her. She then asks if he wants to go to America and marry a girl, but he says that there is no telling how he will feel in the six months that have passed. She gives him a hug and tells him to take care of him.
