In mid-September, the second term of Todai begins. The Governess tells the Governess that she has not been able to attend the first term because she is too busy with her studies. She tells him that she will try again in the coming term. She says that she hopes to be able to earn one credit for her attendance by being friends with Seta and by being a member of the Todai tennis club. She also tells him about her plans to go abroad to help her friend, who is studying in another country. She asks him if he would like to go with her, and he says that he would rather go abroad and help her than stay in Todai with her. He tells her that he does not have the money to do so, and she asks him what he is trying to do with his life. He replies that he wants to go to a university to study archeology, which he has been interested in for a long time. She then asks him about his plans to get into the university.
