About This Chapter
Back on the island, Hirokazu and Enobaruchi talk about the play they've just finished. They've been away for a week, and they're bummed that they haven't been able to practice their lines yet. They wonder if they'll ever be able to get back to practicing their lines again, since the island has changed so much since they arrived. They also wonder if there's any way they can get back together with their friends, since it's the end of the party season. They joke about the fact that the beer can they threw hit the guy in the street, and he's just so clumsy that he can't get out of the way. He's also so pathetic that he doesn't know what to do with himself. He says he'll apologize to his friends, and then he goes off to apologize to the girl. He thinks she's having a good time, and that she'll be okay. He asks if he can sniff at her, and she says he should. She's happy to see him, and says she'd like to leave them alone. She tells him to go check out the wrecked ship, because she thinks the ghosts are asking for her. She also tells him that if he wants to go in, he can wait for the morning, which is Friday, the 13th. She warns him not to be too nervous, because a monster might show up. He agrees, but he thinks she has a weakness for acting tough. He wonders if they could all get along without realizing it, and if they can all learn to act tough together.
