He feels like he's stepping into a heavy mud. The narrator says that he must not stop, because if he loses his consciousness, he'll be weaker and weaker. He asks the brat if he thinks the two of them can handle this whole thing. He tells the brat to take a look at the grass. It's releasing soul elements. It looks like a "worm egg," he says. He then says that the land they've been in is surrounded by small people. They're from the "river of life" , and they have the same kind of soul elements as they did before. They must have intelligence, he says, because they flee in all directions.
