This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between Caius and Caius's servant, Caius. Caius says that Caius looks like he cares for Caius a lot, so he came to see how he was doing. He says that if Caius wants to get involved in the war, then he's going to have to intervene. If he doesn't intervene, then Caius is going to be the one who gets beaten. He's seen wars much worse than this, he says. He also says that everyone has their own interests, and that everyone and everything is going against theirs. This is the way the world has always been. He asks Caius what he meant when he said that they didn't want to get into the war. Caious says that he'd been poking around in their business, and he'll fight against them by himself if they meet any of the holy knights.
