This chapter opens with a conversation between the blind doctor and the blind man. The blind man tells the doctor that he has lost his memory and wishes to see him again. The doctor tells him to go to a famous restaurant called "Omurice" , where he has been eating for the past few months. He says that he used to go there when he was young and blind, and he remembers thinking that he was ugly, but now that he is blind, he realizes that he must not get disappointed in the sight of the man. He tells the man that he will marry him if he can remember the moment when he saved him from drowning in the snow six years ago. He asks the man to give him a chance to marry him, and the doctor agrees. He explains that for six years before meeting the man, he always wanted him to regain his memory, but as time passed, he was getting tired and did not want to accept that the man did not need him anymore.
