About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. Tod has lost his right eye, and his heart has returned to the way it was before he was plucked from the sky. He tells his brother that he pretended to be an ally of the angel who had plucked his wings. He also tells him that he would have done the same thing himself if he had not been blinded by an impurity. He asks if he is also blinded by the same impurity, and if he would need to teach him how to break his heart back to a state of pureness. He says that he does not love anyone, and that killing him would be like killing anyone. He compares killing to using one's life to replace the life of another. Death is trying to kill him, and death is using his life to kill tod. Death failed to kill Tod, he says, because he was pure. Death will disappear from the universe if Tod is not pure. He promises to get the keys to the piano and open the channel together. They will return to their hometown, where there is no death. He will take the girl and play with her, and remember what he wants. The heart is still intact, but it has lost its ability to form a heart. He decides that he will let Tod and the girl become his heart and let them be together, and he will save Tod with his own death energy.
