In this chapter, we learn that the ghost of Tod has returned to the place where he first met the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper tells Tod that he will no longer need Tod's life and that he has no need for Tod anymore. Tod refuses to break off their relationship, but the Ghost tells him that he is a "grim reaper" , an icy, logical being, and that the rest are "interfering impurities" . He asks Tod why he wants to break the relationship with him, and Tod replies that he treats him the best because he is the person who treats him "like a loved one." The Ghost then tells tod that from the "eye" he gave Tod, he saw that Tod had the keys to the creator in him. The Ghost asks tod to go back to his hometown and tell him that the opportunity he gave to Tod was the opportunity to grow. He says that he needs Tod to collect the piano keys for him so that he can use them to travel to the Ghost's home. He also says that if Tod does not collect the keys, he will not become a "loved one."
