In this chapter, Desdemona explains to Victor how she feels about him. She tells him that he is the one who took her through the blizzard and that she is the god who comes across the universe. He tells her that he loves her, but that he never said it. He says that he was anxious when he was taken away, but he never came back. It is death, he says, that makes him love her. He believes in her at this moment. He wants to tell her all of his thoughts. He asks her if she can delete the memory of the time they were in the mountains, when she did not want to break off their connection. He also asks her why she told the nurse that they were relatives. She denied that she was his "boyfriend" and told him he was like her "loved one. She says that she treats him the best in this world. She asks him if he knows the way to "invalidate" the death kiss on the piano keys. He has no idea what he is going to do.
