About This Chapter
The chapter opens with the narrator explaining that he cannot remember where he saw the words "hell" and "hope" in the previous chapter. He says that heaven is a place where "hope scarcely exists" and where "all the angels are hiding because they are afraid to emerge from the clouds. He explains that most of the angels' brains are "made of stupidity" and that they cannot afford a house down in heaven so they must live and work in peace. The narrator then explains that he is a compatriot of the "ill-mannered guy" who is manipulating the clouds in order to gain access to the keys to the piano. The piano keys belong to the angels of happiness, joy, and sorrow. They are willing to exchange the piano keys for the keys of the music, the "Angel of Music." The narrator explains that the book of the truth has inscribed his vow and that if he violates his vow, the book will inscribe his vow on the keys. If he violates what he has said, the keys will be given to the "grim reaper," and if he does not violate his vow the keys are given to "xiaochao feng," the "angel of music." They discuss how to get the keys back from the angel of death, who is the first angel to come out of the clouds and who wants to "reach into his body." They decide that if tod does not retrieve the keys from the body of kir, he will break his vow.
