In this chapter, we are introduced to the protagonist, who is also called "xiaochao" or "the grim reaper." We learn that he is a person who lives independently in the real world, and that he has the keys to the "genesis piano," which is the key to the afterlife. The protagonist asks if anyone can save him from the "devil's den," and the answer is "no." The protagonist then asks if he can summon Tod, and the protagonist replies that he cannot, because he has come to an impasse with the "grim reaper," who wants him to summon her. He then asks why wang-xiang wants to kill him, and he answers that he wants to rule the world, or rule the earth. He also asks if there is something he can't accomplish, and only the piano can do it. He asks if Tod is different from before, and then asks how he feels about being cold, and what it feels like to be immortal. He concludes that he can only be pulled between his memories and his moment.
